1.  Babylon, Mary zophres

When contemplating the clothes for his epic "Babylon," director Damien Chazelle and costume designer Mary Zophres wanted to avoid anything spectators had already seen in movies set in the 1920s.

2. Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, Jenny Beavan

The design of the costumes was crucial in a movie where clothing represents inventiveness and luxury. Fabian says, "I always knew this was a costume designer's fantasy. Jenny Beavan, who Fabian calls "one of the best costume designers Britain has ever created," was sought out by the director.

3. Black Panther 2, Ruth Carter. “It was very important that the materials not create a costume that looked too much like a costume. We wanted it to be taken seriously. We didn't want it to be oversexualized, like the [way the] comics sometimes paint female warriors.” She said that out of thousands of tribes in Africa she used 8 to twelve of them to stand for the tribe of Wakanda.

4. Everything Everywhere All at Once, Shirley Kurata Evelyn, the owner of a laundromat, is terrorized by each of Jobu's absurd multiverse-jumping personalities that costume designer and stylist Shirley Kurata have put together (Michelle Yeoh).

5. Elvis, Catherina Martin

Martin points out that a lived-in experience versus an on-screen portrayal has distinct expectations for directors, actors, and audiences. Elvis, of course, wasn't constantly changing into a new outfit, and when he sat down, his jeans might have occasionally exposed his socks.
