The famous Rockefeller Center has the long tradition of lighting up a Christmas tree, sharing the holiday spirit with others! The annual tree lighting will take place this December 4th. The first-ever tree, in 1931, was from construction workers who decorated a small balsam fir with tin cans, cranberries, and garlands. In 1999, the largest tree to date was put up, standing up to 100 feet tall. This year's tree has a history of its own as well. The tree was planted by a newlywed couple in 1967, Earl Albert and his late wife, Leslie. As a way to honor her, he decided to donate it as the 2024 Christmas Tree for the Rockefeller Center. When the tree comes down in January, it will be repurposed and milled into lumber for Habitat for Humanity!
