Pumpkin carving is a fun and memorable way to spend the fall season. These carvings can vary in distinctive designs,including scary, cute, and even the most detailed designs, like fairy home carvings. Since the 19th century, carving pumpkins has become a worldwide phenomenon, but it all began in Ireland with the Jack O’ Lantern myth. Jack was said to have made a deal with a soul that granted him coal to light his way out of a dark cave, but he only had a potato. He carved the potato and lit it inside with coal. In New Zealand, this created what is now the Great Pumpkin Carnival, which has now made 20 years of fundraising for local hospitals possible.
