Women's History Month: Women in Fashion

Juleysi

In honor of women's history month, lets give a shoutout to some of the greatest women in fashion!

Donatella Versace

Donatella is a famously known Italian fashion designer and businesswoman. She inherited a portion of Versace (the brand) and became its creative director. From there on, she increased the company's exposure in markets across the globe as well as enhancing its reputation. She has become one of the fashion industry's most recognizable figures.

Vivienne Westwood

Vivienne Westwood (April 8, 1941 – December 29, 2022) was a British fashion designer as well as a businesswoman. She was responsible for bringing new wave fashion and modern punk into mainstream. The public first noticed her when she started making clothes for a boutique with her then partner, Malcolm McLaren, on Kings Road. They shaped the 1970's UK punk scene. After this, she opened four shops in London that at first expanded throughout Britain but then expanded throughout the world, selling a varied range of merchandise. From clothes to jewelry to purses, wallets, and even bridal gowns.

Vera Wang

Vera Ellen Wang is an American fashion designer. She initially pursued a career in figure skating before finding her calling in the fashion industry. She worked for Ralph Lauren and Vogue before launching her own bridal gown boutique in 1990. She gained global recognition for her designs, as they are known to be elegant and sophisticated.

And finally....

Coco Chanel

Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco" Chanel (Aug. 19, 1883–January 10, 1971) was a French fashion designer and businesswoman. She was the founder of the Chanel brand. She was given credit in the post-World War I era for popularizing a casual, chic, and sporty look as the feminine standard of style. She was seen as a rebel of the fashion world for creating a new sartorial style that freed women from lace frills and corsets, offering them instead sailor shirts and wide-legged pants. She isn't only well known for her clothes; she's also known for her purses and fragrances.
